Nestled both high and deep in the Alta Valtellina region of the Italian Alps, close to the Swiss border, lies the picturesque resort of Bormio. With more than two thousand years’ history, the town is accustomed to year round visitors and it is during the winter that the resort particularly comes alive with the arrival of keen skiers to explore its spectacular range of pistes. The resort, host of the 2005 FIS World Ski Championships, makes an exciting base for our groups.

The skiing

50 kilometres of slopes and 14 ski lifts with a capacity of 14.000 persons/hour come up to most skiers’ expectations. The slope "Stelvio" with its more than 4km of piste, hosts the annual men's downhill race, while the "Valbella" and "Betulle" slopes offer skiers more of a challenge. For beginners, the "Bimbi al sole" slope is almost 6 kilometres long and provides gentle but enjoyable skiing, while other easier slopes can be found up on the mountain. The investment in lifts is ongoing; after the recent inauguration of the new cabin-car Bormio - Bormio 2000, two new chair lifts were built, and two new four-seater chairlifts with covers have also been added.

Après ski

Being a lively resort, Bormio offers a good selection of après ski choices which include charachterful bars and cafes, pizzerias, ice-skating and swimming at the town’s roman baths!
