Ski Tours to Italy - Piancavallo

Host to the World Cup championships for 14 years, Piancavallo is a perfect resort for serious skiers, while catering well for groups of all abilities. The resort was developed as a purpose built ski area just twenty years ago, but unlike many of its counterparts has been thoughtfully and carefully designed. This has resulted in Piancavallo gaining a reputation as one of Italy’s top ski resorts. The centre of the village itself is mostly pedestrianised with a large covered shopping area, new sports and games hall, and has a lively apres ski programme.

The skiing

The impressive ski area radiates from the village with a well planned, inter-linking lift system and well-maintained pistes. A two-stage double chair lift takes skiers to the summit of the ski area, providing spectacular views of the Dolomites and the Venetian coast.

The excellent ski school is also well served by a number of smaller drag lifts in the village with good progressions up to the more testing slopes.

The Sauc lifts serve east facing slopes, offering some delightful pistes mainly carved through the woods. The runs are clearly marked for all levels, with the added advantage that everyone can ski back to the resort at the end of the day.

Après ski

This lively little resort offers plenty to keep your group busy when they are not on the slopes. Many traditional activities can be arranged including ice–skating and snowshoe walking. The covered central arcade has shops and cafes, and as almost the whole village is traffic-free getting around is both safe and easy. Further a-field there is an indoor swimming pool at Aviano (20km) and bowling at Roveredo in Piano (18km).

It is about 200m from the nursery slopes, the lifts and ski school meeting point, yet lies in the heart of the village. This 3 star hotel has a great location right on the nursery slopes. The excellent restaurant is very popular with the locals, due to the lovely cooking and marvellous view right over the slopes. The hotel also has a bar as well as a TV area with games machines. There is also a lift and ski storage that can be reached from the slopes. All bedrooms have private facilities, TV and telephone.
