A school from Cleveland was the first to experience our new London GSCE Music and Art support tour and it was a resounding success.

In addition to visiting art galleries, and attending specialist theatre and music workshops, the group also found time to see a bit of the capital, doing some shopping and enjoying a West End show.

Here’s what Liz, their Head of Art, had to say about the trip: “We gave Lucy, our Account Manager, a bit of a challenge with our request for this bespoke Creative Arts trip! At no point did we feel that this was a problem, and we were not made to fit an existing trip format.

“We were delighted with the way Lucy and the team did their best to help us create an exciting, interesting itinerary for our pupils.

“Isabel, our Operations Manager, was meticulous with her planning throughout, and kept in regular contact which was reassuring. She was open to suggestions from myself and the Art and Drama teachers, and we were very happy with our itinerary.

“Both music workshops were excellent. Tom was spot on. Most of the music pupils are quite shy and quiet, but they all said afterwards that they felt comfortable. They behaved just as if they were at school. Tom pitched it just right and did not ‘push’ individuals. He was very informative and the workshop was everything I had hoped for.

“The musicians were excellent, and pupils particularly enjoyed seeing a harpsichord, and hearing a professional singer. They commented afterwards that the set works covered in the workshop are now easier to understand. I would recommend the Music workshops in particular to other schools who offer Edexcel GCSE music.

“For our Art students, The Wallace collection, Tate Modern and the Serpentine Gallery were all excellent. The opportunity to see Art in a variety of galleries enabled pupils to experience Art outside the classroom.”

Here are just some of the wonderful comments Liz’s students said about their tour:

I thought the workshops in the Wallace Collection were really useful. I learned about reductive drawing –I had never heard of it before.”

I liked the Saatchi gallery as the exhibition was relevant to how we are living today as young people. It showed me that Art is not only painting but challenges the way we see things and be more open minded.”

I now know more about the set works and will remember key words like fugue, vibrato, arpeggio and articulation.”

The music workshop was my highlight because it brought the set works to life. Tom was great. Friendly. He knew how to keep you interested. He’s a good teacher. Makes you feel comfortable. At first I didn’t want to answer any questions, but his friendly ‘vibe’ made me more relaxed.”

Liz summed up her experience: “I was impressed with Club Europe’s willingness to help us create a bespoke tour. We never felt as if this was a problem. We were looked after from start to finish by a supportive team, enabling our pupils to have a fantastic, enriching Creative Arts experience.”
